The challenge
Electric motor buyers often arrive with engineering requirements rather than a product name. Power, phase, RPM, frame size, efficiency, mounting and part number can all determine whether a motor is compatible.
The storefront needed to help experienced engineers move quickly while also guiding buyers who only knew part of the specification. Conventional keyword search and a flat collection structure would leave too much work to the customer.
The same technical data also needed to support collection filters, the Motor Finder, product specifications and a structured Google Merchant Center feed without duplicating catalogue work.
Our role
Geocommerce designed the Shopify product architecture around the way industrial buyers identify motors, then connected that structure to customer-facing discovery and external product feeds.
Search logic centered on the values buyers actually know — including part number, power output and frame size — so technical products can be found without browsing dozens of categories.
A step-by-step configurator narrows the catalogue through practical engineering questions, helping customers move from requirements to a suitable motor configuration.
Structured Shopify metafields organize power, horsepower, phase, pole/RPM, frame size, efficiency, mounting, voltage and motor type in reusable product data.
Technical attributes are exposed as collection filters so customers can progressively reduce a large catalogue to compatible products.
Structured Shopify data is transformed into a consistent Google Merchant Center feed, accounting for detailed product attributes and variant-level differences.
