The challenge
Medi-Tape is an established specialist brand with a deep library of product, educational and professional content. Moving platforms meant changing the technical foundation beneath a website that had accumulated search history for more than a decade.
For an older content-rich site, migration errors can create broken backlinks, lost rankings, orphaned articles and sudden crawl inefficiency. The project therefore required much more than moving products and recreating templates.
The blog archive alone included more than 500 URLs that needed to be reviewed and mapped. Redirect planning had to preserve useful historical paths while aligning the content with the new Shopify URL structure.
Our role
Geocommerce planned the move around what search engines and returning users already knew about the site, then rebuilt the commerce experience on Shopify without treating historical URLs as disposable.
Core catalogue, content and storefront structure were moved into Shopify with the new platform designed for easier ongoing management.
Legacy URL patterns and important content paths were treated as migration inputs rather than discovered after launch.
More than 500 blog URLs were mapped into the new structure so historical content could continue resolving to relevant destinations.
Changed product, collection and informational URLs were organized into a redirect plan focused on continuity and relevance.
Long-standing educational material was retained as part of the brand's search and trust footprint rather than reduced to product-only ecommerce.
The migration was approached with post-launch checks around broken paths, crawl behavior and the integrity of the new content structure.
SEO migration strategy
The migration strategy prioritized continuity. Existing search value was treated as an asset to carry forward, while redirects and new Shopify structures handled the unavoidable technical differences between platforms.
Migration workflow
Rather than treating launch day as the end of the project, the migration was built as a sequence of inventory, mapping, implementation and validation steps.
Existing products, categories, articles and historical URL patterns were reviewed before the new information architecture was finalized.
Products, collections and content were organized around a cleaner Shopify architecture while keeping SEO continuity in mind.
Legacy blog paths were matched to the most relevant new content destinations rather than being redirected generically.
Redirect rules were prepared alongside the migration so old links continued to resolve when the new store went live.
Important product, collection and content URLs were checked on the new storefront for usability and routing accuracy.
Post-launch checks focused on broken paths and the transition from the legacy crawl structure to Shopify.
"For a 15-year-old website, the safest migration is the one that respects every useful URL the business has earned."

Migration approach
The work combined data migration, content restructuring and redirect engineering so the new Shopify store could be easier to manage without sacrificing the value accumulated on the previous platform.
The result
Medi-Tape moved onto Shopify with a cleaner commerce foundation and a migration plan built around continuity for customers, content and search engines.
Long-standing URLs and content relationships were deliberately accounted for instead of being left to break after launch.
The migration included redirect mapping across more than 500 legacy blog URLs in addition to commerce pages.
The new platform gives the brand a more manageable foundation for products, content and future ecommerce improvements.
Migrating an established store?
Geocommerce plans Shopify migrations around URL history, content equity and redirect coverage so modernization does not mean starting search visibility from zero.
